What is a VST?
A VST plugin is software that allows you to simulate an instrument or effect virtually.
This means you can add instruments like piano, guitar or drums to your song without having physical equipment. It works the same way with effects.
That’s why it’s called “virtual studio technology” because it allows you to simulate a full virtual studio.
What are VST plugins for?
VST plugins are used to create music without the need for physical instruments or audio processors.
The traditional method of recording music is through physical instruments, connections to microphones, audio processors, etc. VST plugins replace this function with software.
In fact, almost all music nowadays includes some kind of VST plugin. Especially electronic music, but almost all genres include VST plugins in their tracks.
VST plugins make it easy to create music because of their low budget. In the traditional method of music creation, buying all the instruments and processors was very expensive.
Types of VST plugins
There are basically two types of VST:
VST effects: these are effects that are applied to audio tracks. The most common effects are reverb, delay, distortion or EQ (equalizer). The VST effects plugin allows you to virtually simulate one of these audio processors.
VST Tools. You can add pianos, guitars, drums, bass guitars or any other instruments virtually. You don’t need to have the physical instrument.
VST effects help with sound modification and post-production of songs.
VST effects can be applied to sound recorded from a line/microphone, or to sound generated by VST instruments.
For example, if you record a guitar using a loop, you can add reverb or delay to enhance its sound. You can also equalize its sound using an equalizer or limiter.
Similarly, if you create a sound using a VST instrument, you can then apply a VST effect to change its sound. Similarly, you can apply a reverb, distortion, or other effect to it.
VST instruments are used to create virtual instruments. They are also known as VSTi (the “i” in instrument).
You can generate any kind of virtual instrument; from a piano or guitar to a violin or saxophone.
There are an infinite number of plugins for VST instruments. Many of them are free and others are paid.
In general, to write music with a VST instrument, you will need a basic knowledge of piano and sheet music. As they are written based on piano. Whether you are writing a musical pattern on saxophone, guitar or piano.
VST plugins are used in conjunction with a digital audio workstation (DAW) program, such as Cubase, FL Studio, or Reaper.
Without a basic DAW-type editing program, plugins don’t work.
As a tip, if you are into electronic music production, I recommend FL Studio for its ease of use. On the other hand, if you are a musician and want to record your music but want to apply VST effects or add more instruments, I recommend Cubase or Reaper.

What is midi
What is MIDI? – Everything you need to know
Effects: iZotope, FabFilter, AmpliTube, Native Instruments Molecular
There are thousands of plugins you can find on Google and YouTube.
You can find all kinds of
VST plugins that can be used even more fully when using a MIDI instrument.
Since VST plugins are software only, playing these instruments with your computer can be difficult.
Therefore, there are MIDI keyboards that allow you to play any VST plugin in your DAW through a USB connection.
That way, you can use the keyboard as a controller for the VST plugin.
PC requirements for VST plugins
Each plugin has a minimum PC requirement. So there is no universal minimum requirement.
But in general, if you install a lot of VST plugins, you will start to notice that your PC starts to get slower. It is also very common that the program generates delays when you want to play the audio.
Therefore, your computer should have some CPU power and RAM memory. And preferably, use a solid disk.
Small plugins usually don’t cause problems. But large and heavy plugins, like Kontakt, require powerful computers.
As a recommendation, I can tell you to try different plugins. If your PC starts to get clogged, you should consider uninstalling plugins you don’t use regularly.
